I think that most of us grow up thinking that the hardest part of a relationship is finding the right person to spend our lives or part of it with. Very few people speak to children, teenagers or young adults about what happens next, once they find the person they think is the right one. No one tells them how to build and nurture a long-term relationship that lasts.

As it is, the world has changed. Everything is so much more fast-paced and instant gratification is now the norm. We no longer need to work hard to get anything. So now, more than ever, we need to emphasize to our children that relationships take work and need to be nurtured.

Ok, you probably knew this was coming. Sexual contact and intimacy are vital to a good relationship. Put aside any preconceived ideas of frequency because every couple needs to discover what works for them.

Also, sometimes it works to schedule in time like a specific day every week. This may sound contradictory but it can work for some couples.

Hearing someone say they love you every day makes a world of difference. Try it. Humans are social beings. We need connection and we need relationships. Even the more introverted and individualistic among us look for connection.

Instead, we need to focus on our behavior and ask our partner to do the same. We also need to be willing to compromise on things that do not affect our sense of self. This means that our relationships will have their ups and downs and challenges. I loved all the points you mentioned here!

Respecting each other is key to any relationship. Giving compliments, saying sorry n thank you are also important things. Really great points, I agree with all of them.
