Wondering if anyone has a ballpark on how long your pool guy stays when he comes weekly. Our guy was out today. Pool stays clear but still see some yellow on bottom. Also, when I brush I get a small cloud of I'm guessing dead algae as it is whiteish. I think I'm being hosed. I can't brush our pool in under 25 minutes let alone checking chemicals, etc.

If I'm getting the short end of the brush, any and all recommendations are welcome. DM'ing is fine. Oh if we fire the pool guy, I'll be in the market for a lawn guy next as they do both.

Lawn service is 'fair'. My pool is about the same size so yours and I would say he is there about 15 to 20 min. He skims the pool, vacumes, brushes as needed test the water and adds chemicals and rinse the filter as needed.

My service includes the cost of chlorine. They make it look easy because they do it all day long, one little mistake on chlorine or ph levels and you will spend more on the chemicals to fix it than you pay them not to make mistakes. As for the white cloud it could be from any number of things, if you have algae it could be from a chemical imbalance, your filter system may not be running enough hours or your flow may be reduced because the filter is dirty or needs replacement.

Discuss your issues with the people who are maintaining the pool Harbor Hopper. None of them brush every week and pools don't need weekly brushing. If it's just a chemical check, 5 mins is sufficient. But, this should only be every-other visit, NOT the norm. Once a month they should be brushing, vacuuming unless you have an auto-vac , and cleaning the filter.

This should take minutes, depending on size. If he's doing all of this in 10 mins, FIRE them. My service from Superior Pools would spend about minutes as well. He tests the water, brushes the pool, and then cleans the filter from what I've seen every visit. Chemical cost is included. He also leaves a record of what the chem balances were and what services were provided, e. One thing they will not do is replace the solar cover if it was on the pool when they arrived.

Pool is pretty simple to DIY. The chemistry is so simple even I can do it and all you need is borax, chlorine, muriatic acid and maybe some baking soda. The stores have all sorts of stuff, none of which are needed actually. Learn how here: Purchasing swimming pool chemicals at the grocery store!

I brush every two weeks, seldom need to vacuum if your filter works and clean the filter every 2 months. Takes 5 seconds to check chemistry, 2 minutes to add a little of whatever may be needed seldom. But it does take 15 minutes to brush. Don't forget that these folks also have to be licensed and they have to drive to you home to perform the work. Big House. Putting that in only takes a second - if you have it.

They are efficient. My guy takes 10 minutes some days 2 guys. They have everything with them. They brush and vacuum when needed, add chemo, and clean the filters when needed. They should include drive time in their cost - although you don't seem to recognize that, or the run time to get your own supplies, and the time it will really subtract from your free time. I agree with HH though, if your guys aren't keeping after it for you there are a lot of options.

Thank you ALL!!!! We'll watch 'em over the next few weeks and see if they do a complete brush at least every 2 or 3 weeks. This guy has about clients so he's doing ok. I always kept the pool myself but due to some different issues, I'm not able to do at this time. I spent so much time getting it right I don't want it to go by the way side until I can pick it back up.

If I do have to fire them hopefully not , I'll look into Superior Pools. I feel better about my choice. Again, many, many thanks to all! You Rock!!!!!! Enjoy the cooler weather. It'll be hot once again shortly. Appreciate the help! Originally Posted by daFrogMan. I remember seeing years ago in Popular Science or Pop. Mechanics maybe? The water supposedly stayed crystal clear due to the fish eating and filtering any algae before it was visible to the eye. I guess the filter cleaned up the fish poop?? They said that the hardest part was getting used to swimming and have the little fish nibble on you.
