Friendship, a theme that comes under the broader theme of love repeatedly throughout poetic history. American poet, Robert Frost, expresses the value of his friendships through this short poem. It details his efforts to prioritise time to talk with friends over his work. I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground, Blade-end up and five feet tall, And plod: I go up to the stone wall For a friendly visit.

When someone's having a bad day, A smile could go a long way, So make sure to put one on And keep it until the day is gone. You don't know what this deed Could do for a friend in need. It might save them from the pain Of a sadness they cannot contain. Don't ask what a smile can do Because I'm sure it once helped you. You have a friend in me, Don't try and hide your feelings because your best friend can see. I mean the world to you, That's how I know our friendship is true.

We will be besties for life, One gets stabbed we both feel the knife I'm not sure when it happened But I'm very glad it did You came into my life when I really needed a friend. You and I are different And in many ways the same Your good ear, compassionate heart Will always find you fame. As childhood friends, we grew up together, Swearing to be friends forever and ever. Sometimes we would argue and fight, Other times we would laugh and stay up all night.

We went from playing with games and toys, To talking and dreaming about different boys. My thoughts and feelings, to you I would confide, Never having anything to hide.

Friends we do remain, Things changing, and things staying the same. To each other we still listen and share, About each other, we will always care. How do I tell you I'm sorry - With a gesture, a look, a touch? How is it I never realized I hurt you so very much? I do not ask forgiveness, A comfort I'll never deserve. I merely want to let you know, But I cannot find the nerve. To finally confront you, face-to-face, To look you in the eye, To face your wrath, your apathy - Too terrified to try.

You called me selfish, I turned away, I festered and I fled; Cutting and wounding and lashing out, Just to see if you bled. Betraying and deceiving you, I surely had no right To snatch away such a precious gem; A dark thief in the night. Four years and forever passed To bring us to this day, When I present these simple words I never thought to say.

The time has come, it's long past due, To put aside my fear; Would this confession torture you, Or have you longed to hear? To hear those two forbidden words, To vanquish all the pain, To understand my dearest wish: To know you once again. The years aged me remarkably, Though they have not made me wise; I do know I erred irrevocably - For that I apologize.

Because you are my friend, my life is enriched in a myriad of ways. Like a cool breeze on a sweltering day, like a ray of sunshine parting glowering clouds, you lift me up. In good times, we soar, like weightless balloons over neon rainbows. In bad times, you are soothing balm for my pummeled soul. I learn so much from you; you help me see old things in new ways. I wonder if you are aware of the bright seeds you are sowing in me.

I'm a better person for knowing you, so that everyone I interact with is touched by your good effect on me. You relax me, refresh me, renew me. Your bounteous heart envelops me in joy and love and peace. May your life be filled with dazzling blessings, just as I am blessed by being your friend.

A friend is someone who listens, A friend is someone who cares. A friend is someone who understands, A friend is someone who shares. It's nice to have a special friend To tell all your secrets to.

It's nice to know that someone you like, Is someone who really likes you. A friend is someone you call on the phone To talk about nothing at all. A friend is someone who cheers you up. And makes you feel ten feet tall. Everyone would like to have A special friend it's true But if you want a special friend, You need to be one, too.

Here's a bottle and an honest friend! What wad ye wish for mair, man? Wha kens, before his life may end, What his share may be o' care, man? Then catch the moments as they fly, And use them as ye ought, man: Believe me, happiness is shy, And comes not aye when sought, man.

A friend is a person to laugh and cry with, An inspiration, Someone who lends a helping hand, though friends may not be forever, And they may not end up together, the memories of a true friendship will last forever.

A friend is not a shadow nor a servant But someone who hold a piece of a person in his heart. Someone who shares a smile, Someone who brightens up your day What makes a person a friend? Is by saying your Love will stay. My godlike friend—nay, do not stare, You think the phrase is odd-like; But God is love, the saints declare, Then surely thou art god-like.

And is thy ardour still the same? And kindled still at Anna? Others may boast a partial flame, But thou art a volcano! Ev'n Wedlock asks not love beyond Death's tie-dissolving portal; But thou, omnipotently fond, May'st promise love immortal! Thy wounds such healing powers defy, Such symptoms dire attend them, That last great antihectic try— Marriage perhaps may mend them.

Sweet Anna has an air—a grace, Divine, magnetic, touching: She talks, she charms—but who can trace The process of bewitching? Your friendship much can make me blest, O why that bliss destroy! Why urge the only, one request You know I will deny! Your thought, if Love must harbour there, Conceal it in that thought; Nor cause me from my bosom tear The very friend I sought.

O could I give thee India's wealth, As I this trifle send; Because thy joy in both would be To share them with a friend. But golden sands did never grace The Heliconian stream; Then take what gold could never buy— An honest bard's esteem. Friendships come and Friendships go Like wave upon the sand Like day and night Like birds in flight Like snowflakes when they land But you and I are something else Our friendship's here to stay Like weeds and rocks and dirty socks It never goes away!

I Lang hae thought, my youthfu' friend, A something to have sent you, Tho' it should serve nae ither end Than just a kind memento: But how the subject-theme may gang, Let time and chance determine; Perhaps it may turn out a sang: Perhaps turn out a sermon. Ye'll try the world soon, my lad; And, Andrew dear, believe me, Ye'll find mankind an unco squad, And muckle they may grieve ye: For care and trouble set your thought, Ev'n when your end's attained; And a' your views may come to nought, Where ev'ry nerve is strained.

I'll no say, men are villains a'; The real, harden'd wicked, Wha hae nae check but human law, Are to a few restricked; But, Och! Yet they wha fa' in fortune's strife, Their fate we shouldna censure; For still, th' important end of life They equally may answer; A man may hae an honest heart, Tho' poortith hourly stare him; A man may tak a neibor's part, Yet hae nae cash to spare him.

Aye free, aff-han', your story tell, When wi' a bosom crony; But still keep something to yoursel', Ye scarcely tell to ony: Conceal yoursel' as weel's ye can Frae critical dissection; But keek thro' ev'ry other man, Wi' sharpen'd, sly inspection. The sacred lowe o' weel-plac'd love, Luxuriantly indulge it; But never tempt th' illicit rove, Tho' naething should divulge it: I waive the quantum o' the sin, The hazard of concealing; But, Och!

To catch dame Fortune's golden smile, Assiduous wait upon her; And gather gear by ev'ry wile That's justified by honour; Not for to hide it in a hedge, Nor for a train attendant; But for the glorious privilege Of being independent. The fear o' hell's a hangman's whip, To haud the wretch in order; But where ye feel your honour grip, Let that aye be your border; Its slightest touches, instant pause— Debar a' side-pretences; And resolutely keep its laws, Uncaring consequences.

The great Creator to revere, Must sure become the creature; But still the preaching cant forbear, And ev'n the rigid feature: Yet ne'er with wits profane to range, Be complaisance extended; An atheist-laugh's a poor exchange For Deity offended!

When ranting round in pleasure's ring, Religion may be blinded; Or if she gie a random sting, It may be little minded; But when on life we're tempest driv'n— A conscience but a canker— A correspondence fix'd wi' Heav'n, Is sure a noble anchor!

Adieu, dear, amiable youth! Your heart can ne'er be wanting! May prudence, fortitude, and truth, Erect your brow undaunting! In ploughman phrase, "God send you speed," Still daily to grow wiser; And may ye better reck the rede, Then ever did th' adviser! A Friend is a Treasure A friend is someone we turn to, when our spirits need a lift. A friend is someone we treasure, for our friendship is a gift. A friend is someone who fills our lives, with beauty, joy and grace.

And make the world we live in, a better and happier place. True friends are for life Until the end They're more than special They're your bestest friends. They're the ones you can go to When you're in despair The ones that'll help you Even when you got gum in your hair! They're the ones who'll laugh And go laughing with you all through the night The ones who'll help you Help you with all their might.

A best friend is always there, whether you need advice, or a pep talk, or even a shoulder to cry on. A best friend listens with her heart and is always honest with you, even though the truth may not be what you want to hear. A best friend knows all your secrets, understands your fears shares your dreams.

A best friend never stops believing in you even if you give up on yourself. And no matter what happens, you always will be. You are my best friend Sees not my friend, what a deep snow Candies our country's woody brow? The yielding branch his load scarce bears, Oppress'd with snow and frozen tears; While the dumb rivers slowly float, All bound up in an icy coat.

Let us meet then! Why any more cast we an eye On what may come, not what is nigh? Why vex ourselves with fear, or hope And cares beyond our horoscope? Who into future times would peer, Looks oft beyond his term set here, And cannot go into those grounds But through a churchyard, which them bounds. Sorrows and sighs and searches spend And draw our bottom to an end, But discreet joys lengthen the lease, Without which life were a disease; And who this age a mourner goes, Doth with his tears but feed his foes.

If I Could Tell You

I think awhile of Love, and while I think, Love is to me a world, Sole meat and sweetest drink, And close connecting link Tween heaven and earth. I fain would ask my friend how it can be, But when the time arrives, Then Love is more lovely Than anything to me, And so I'm dumb. For if the truth were known, Love cannot speak, But only thinks and does; Though surely out 'twill leak Without the help of Greek, Or any tongue. A man may love the truth and practise it, Beauty he may admire, And goodness not omit, As much as may befit To reverence.

Best Friends means different things to different people. Some insist that you can have only one best friend. Others assert that they have best friends for different aspects of their personalities. Whatever the precise definition, your best friend is the person who gets you. They understand who you are and what you are saying. The greatest distance cannot separate best friends.

Best Friendship Poems

Studies have shown that loneliness can be detrimental to health. They discovered that lonely people had a 50 per cent increased risk of early death, compared to those with good social connections. In contrast, obesity raises the chance of dying before the age of 70 by around 30 per cent. Friends and family are important to our wellbeing. However, there are a plethora of poems about family members so I decided to focus on the harder task: poems about friendship.
